My next book, called "Brew or Die!" is being edited for publication as we speak. If you've ever wanted to brew your own mead, wine or make all-natural liqueurs, this book should be of great interest. For all 8 of my fans out there, the recipe to the legendary Finsternis Mead is in there as well as the ale-mead recipe similar to the one responsible for the behavior at the infamous pig show. I also include an article on absinthe and some bootlegging stories.
If you've ever wanted to be a bootlegger or just brew your own, this is it!

I am in final editing stages, re-editing, actually of my book "Hard Core Tarot" which can teach you how to read tarot cards in record time. It is written from the perspective of a musician, of course. It was actually finished about 3 years ago. It got rejected by a major publisher in the final stages. Personally, I think it was because I kind of called Bullshit on Cold Readers in a roundabout way. That and I didn't want a purple book with flowers on it. Amazon has a way to self-publish now, so I'm going to put it out there. I wrote it while I was still doing a lot of readings. I'll follow up on this when it's available.

Artist: Finsternis
Album: Eine Finster Nachtmusik
Label: Ma-Kahru/Regimental
Finsternis is an American band that plays midpaced, sludgy black/doom metal. I believe this is their first demo.
Finsternis take a rather rare approach to black metal - long, slow, bass-heavy, hook-laden songs. The guitar here is excellent, especially the delicate work during some of the breakdowns. The bass is also noteworthy, since most black metal bands ignore this instrument completely. Finsternis' bass lines remind me of early Barathrum in complexity and originality, no small compliment for any band! The vocals are an understandable snarl, more or less doom metal style in execution. The occasional samples are well-placed, and make an interesting counterpoint to the music.
There are three songs on this album, the shortest being a bit over seven minutes in length. The band pulls off such epic length songs quite easily. The songs contain a lot of variety, as each of them explores several different moods and tempos. The intelligible, clever vocals, memorable guitar and bass lines, and almost ritual tempo of the music suggest that you'll have these songs stuck in your head for days after listening. "The Journey" is a particularly impressive song, as both the music and lyrics come together to tell an archtypical tale of a band of wanderers far from home.
This is definitely one of the most unique demos I've heard in a while - this band sounds like very little I've heard, and that alone would make it worth seeking out. Add in the sheer quality of the music, and this becomes a must-have. Judging by the demo, their first album should be interesting indeed...
Standout tracks: "The Journey", "In the Halls of the Wicked"

Overall, strength is always an important facet to any black metal band, and
Finsternis delivers a set of strongly structured and intense black metal
music. The riffs are tight, and the sound of the lead guitar is stinging and
quite effective. There are a variety of influences at work here, and it
seems the band is mature enough to mesh them all cohesively enough to obtain
their own sound.
What lies ahead for them is surely up to them, but I salivate like a wolf at
what's in store down the road...Mike of Ma Kahru
Opus I - part I, II and III.
The musical approach is some very doom laden heavy metal, mixed with a little black metal. It is a very heavy album, it is nice to hear a band putting their money on heavyness instead of speed(not that there is anything wrong with speed, it is also killing!)
As mentioned there is 3 tracks throughout the 25 min. of music. So the tracks are pretty long. That isn't something which you'll notice because the music differs alot and there is alot of great great twists and leads to the music too, so it is never getting boring.
I must admit that this disc has gone straight to my usually old and icecold heart, so there must be something about this disc! If you are in need of some doomy music with hypnotic parts and a very special and eerie sound, as the band for sure can call their own, is "Eine Finster Nachtmusik" the right piece of art for you. I am for sure looking forward to their next release, which will hopefully be soon.
Until then the only right thing to do, is to open a bottle of red wine, lid a candle and listen to Finsternis, until the dawn breaks!

Finsternis — Eine Finster Nactmusik, Self-Released
Finsternis is a black metal band hailing from none other than Waco, TX! Wait
a minute! Did I see that correctly? Yes, and Finsternis seems dead-set on
convincing all that some seriously dark, demented black metal can come from
such an unlikely place. The band refers to their music as “epic black
metal,” and with one glance at the track listing, it’s obvious this is an
apt description. Nactmusik features only one song, “Opus 1,” played in three
continuous parts: Resounding, The Journey and In the Halls of the Wicked.
While not from the blast-attack, windmill riffing school of black metal,
Finsternis opts for more of an atmospheric, moody style of BM that at times
sounds very avant-gardish and unconventional. Their originality and
singleness of vision is refreshing. The band needs to develop its sound a
little more — since tracks tend to meander a bit — but the artistic
integrity of this Waco band is quite welcome. Find out more about them at

Killers By Trade - Ancient Rider
Release: 2005
Label: Self-released
By: Anders
Posted: Nov 27, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Texan one man force is now ready with the mini CD "Ancient Rider" consisting of re-recordings of 2 of the demo tracks, 2 new tunes and a cover of REO Speedwagon's 'Ridin' The Storm Out', and when I am at that cover, I have to say it is pretty good. After I found a sample on the net, and got a little listen to the original, it is pretty impressive how Clint has turned the track into his own, without it losing its identity, really good work.
Musically Killers By Trade delivers dark horror infused rock with a raw punk edge, and metallic riffing and pounding drums. The drums are mostly a love/hate question on this release, the drumming is delivered by a machine, and at times it sounds very mechanical and cold and other times more natural. The outlining of the sound adds a lot to the atmosphere, the clinical and cold computerized sounds adds a nice cold and eerie atmosphere to the tracks and make them seem modern, as for an instance 'Ridin' The Storm Out'. The guitar on the album is good as well, catchy riffs that clings onto the listener and drives the music forward. A nice and crunchy very crisp guitar tone is used most of the time and that is really fitting. The leads on here are great too, eerie and wicked most of the time. The bluesy guitar play on 'Solstice', a track that has become my new Killers By Trade fave, is also very cool and adds a killer atmosphere to that track.
The compositions are good and catchy and one of the new tracks 'Tears Of Broken Glass' are plain out scary and disturbing, very dark and churns through a sonic dusk of misery and pain. The material on the release seems very emotional and fuelled by pain and hatred, it seems like Clint is pouring himself out into the music, and that makes the final output very credible.
The production of the miniCD is great as well, the guitar comes clean cut through, while still being raw and noisy as hell. The programmed drums are placed nice into the mix, the snare is a menace when it needs to, and more calm at other times and the kick drums are beating with a nice firm kick. The manipulating of the sound channels are also a nice feature, and adds a nice touch of technicality, and are best enjoyed with headphones.
This release is a potential breakthrough of Killers By Trade, the music on here is very driven and it catches fairly quickly on. The metallic hard rock with the punky straight ahead attitude and raw and crunchy guitar tone, should speak to a lot and go straight into the heart of even more. If there had been a label behind this release, with the means of promoting the hell out of it, it would have become an instant big hit, I'm not a second in doubt of that. Clint Love has hit the right nerve with this music, and now when it has been recorded really powerful and hard hitting, it should kick some doors in. Though he has released "Ancient Rider" by himself, so I guess that will limit the amount of copies sold and spread, though beware, this will easily go and became a "cult" release and band, all the means for it are present.
